28. Stayer - Writing ʻCalendar Yearʼ made me realise that Australia has a number of problematic celebrations, including the Melbourne Cup. As a kid, itʻs easy to get sucked into the glamour and excitement of the Melbourne Cup until you acknowledge the abuses inflicted on the horses and the perpetuation of Australiaʼs massive gambling addiction. This is a pretty raw electric guitar and vocal recording I did to lock in the tempo for the final version. Favourite line: I canʼt believe that I still believe I can win.
